Hollywood VFX is notoriously difficult to get into. My talk covers the strategies for breaking into the industry and how to go from a Junior role to Senior in under 2 years and triple your salary in the process. Interspersed throughout the talk is the story of MattePaint.com and how I became the CEO of a company responsible for the reference photography used in Hollywood Blockbusters today.

I’ve been a freelance environment artist / matte painter for 10 years. I started full-time as a matte painter in VFX in 2015 working on Pan, Tarzan and Gods of Egypt. I then went from that Junior position, into a senior position the following year by being very strategic with my contacts, resume and pitch. At the end of my first job in VFX, I had the idea for MattePaint.com which I then started to build. It took 2.5 years of preparation before we launched, all the while I was working on shows such as Game of Thrones, Logan, Assassins Creed, Thor, etc. At the end of 2018 I left the industry to work fulltime as the CEO of MattePaint.com. Now, our clients include Disney, DNEG, MPC, Scanline VFX and others and we have over 10,000 individual users worldwide.
